Macquarie Generation is a NSW State Owned Corporation established in 1996. Our core business is the production and wholesale of electricity to the National Electricity Market.

Macquarie Generation owns and operates Liddell Power Station and Bayswater Power Station between Singleton and Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter Valley of NSW. Our corporate office is located in Newcastle.

Each year we produce approximately 13% of the electricity needed by people in eastern Australia from South Australia to Northern Queensland. This is equivalent to 40% of the electricity needed by the people of New South Wales, making Macquarie Generation one of Australia's largest electricity generators.

We have an industry leading safety record, and a proud history of economic contribution to NSW and community support for the Hunter Region.

2010-11 has been a tough year for the power sector. As the electricity market restructures, demand has been flattening. Carbon has also become a growing issue during this transitional phase.

While it has been a difficult 12 months, Macquarie Generation has had another successful year of operation. We have maintained an outstanding safety record and achieved high levels of power station availability.

Liddell and Bayswater Power Stations remain two of Australia's lowest cost producers of base load electricity, and are a foundation of the NSW economy and quality of life enjoyed by the people of NSW.
