Macquarie Generation is committed to environmental management, and we accepts responsibility as an essential part ofour business. Minimising environmental impacts, preventing pollution, using resources efficiently and improving waste management are our priorities.
In 2005 the Corporation's Environmental Management System (EMS) received certification to the international standard for environmental management ISO14001, which demands continual improvement of environmental performance.
Liddell and Bayswater's operations are monitored by the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change, which receives around the clock data on power station environmental performance. Macquarie Generation also maintains five ambient air quality monitoring stations around the power stations.
At a time of growing global concern about emissions, Macquarie Generation has developed a comprehensive greenhouse gas reduction program throughtechnology upgrades and investment in renewable energy initiatives.
Liddell and Bayswater have advanced emission control systems that trap ash created by burning coal. The ash is stored on site and used in valuable applications including cement making, road construction and land rehabilitation.
Being located inland and subject to rainfall variations, Liddell and Bayswater share the broader community commitment to water conservation. Sophisticated water treatment and recycling systems at the power stations ensure efficient water use and maintenance of water quality.
