On 1 July 2010, the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) replaced the Freedom of Information Act 1989 (NSW).The new law creates new rights to information that are designed to meet community expectations of an open and transparent government.
The law encourages government departments, agencies and Corporations to proactively release government information. More information about new ways to access NSW government information is available on the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) website www.oic.nsw.gov.au.
