  1. 2011 Annual Report Released

    -

2010-11 has been a tough year for the power sector. As the electricity market restructures, demand has been flattening. Carbon has also become a growing issue during this transitional phase.

While it has been a difficult 12 months, Macquarie Generation has had another successful year of operation. We have maintained an outstanding safety record and achieved high levels of power station availability.

Liddell and Bayswater Power Stations remain two of Australia's lowest cost producers of base load electricity, and are a foundation of the NSW economy and quality of life enjoyed by the people of NSW.
  2. Carbon Tax Impact

    July 2011

Macquarie Generation is a State-owned Corporation. The NSW Government is our sole shareholder. Every NSW taxpayer therefore has a direct stake in the carbon pricing scheme through their ownership of our business.

The new carbon price scheme will have serious financial consequences for our business. Macquarie Generation will incur the largest financial loss of any company in Australia. Unlike most other businesses in all industries covered by the scheme, we are not eligible for any form of compensation or assistance. The impact on us will be immediate and damaging.

The NSW Minister for Planning has granted concept approval for the Bayswater B power station project. The approval is for a 'dual fuel' power station development, which allows potential developers to choose whether the power station will be coal or gas-fired. Under the NSW Government Energy Reform Strategy, the project is one of a number of development sites which is intended to be sold to the private sector.

  5. Securing NSW Electricity Supplies

    15th February 2008

One of the most significant issues facing NSW into the future is how we secure our energy supplies. The Owen Inquiry into electricity found that NSW would need additional baseload generation capacity by 2013-14. Therefore, action is required now to keep the lights on in NSW. The NSW Government has established a new website with information about their plans in response to the Owen Inquiry findings and recommendations.
  6. Market Announcement - Drought Impact

    December 20th 2007

Liddell and Bayswater Power Stations produce 40% of the electricity used by the people of NSW. Water is an essential part of Macquarie Generation's electricity generation process, used in the power stations for cooling purposes.
